Alan Howarth started his career in music as a young man playing in local bands in Cleveland,
Ohio in the early seventies. Although his early music life began by playing local rock bands; Tree
Stumps, Renaissance Faire and Silk which opened for national touring acts (including “the Who”
and “Cream”) the direction of his career took a turn in 1976.
Being a founding partner in Pi Keyboards and Audio, a pioneering synthesizer and pro audio
shop, Alan was invited to provide synthesizer tour support for fusion jazz band, "Weather Report"
which relocated him to Los Angeles CA in 1976. In 1979, he met the sound effects team for The
Motion Picture, Star Trek. This became a major breakthrough for his career launching him as a
sound designer for the next six Star Trek feature films. His next break came when he had the
opportunity to collaborate with music director John Carpenter on the film “Escape from New
York”. This experience led him to work on numerous films including: “Halloween” films 2-6,
“Christine”, “Big Trouble in Little China”, “Prince of Darkness” and “They Live”, to name a few.
His award winning Sound Design work also placed him on the Oscar winning sound effects teams
for “The Hunt for Red October and “Dracula” directed by Francis Ford Coppola. In addition, Alan
was the sound designer for an innovative multi-channel sound system that has evolved into the
immersive multi-channel sound systems used in movie theatres today.
Alan is firmly established as a producer, film composer and sound designer, he continues be a
sonic visionary today creating patents for Natural Frequency Resonance wellness sound and
immersive spatial audio design.
